Productive IT announce a public beta testing program for their new FileMaker to Google Calendar plug-in. It enables you to effectively synchronise your events data with one or more Google Calendars.

At this time, we'd like to hear from FileMaker users and developers who are interested in joining the beta-testing program. The program will start in the next few weeks, but you should apply now if you want to take part. We're also considering releasing 'easyCal', our drag-and-drop graphical interface calendar for FMP 9+.

Integrating FileMaker with Google Calendar offers many advantages over alternative integration with iCal or Outlook: If you already use Google Calendar for storing your events, then you'll no longer need to synchronise first through iCal or Outlook, so you won't have to worry about possible duplicated IDs when synchronised on different computers. Also you'll not need Exchange server or iCal Server for networked calendars... it can just go straight from FMP to Google Calendar and back. If you want, you can then subscribe to your Google Calendar from iCal or Outlook. Our Google Calendar plug-in runs on Mac & Windows, FMP & FMS.

The plug-in can:
- Run on FMP & FMS, Mac & Win
- Login to Google
- Get a list of calendars for the Google account
- Create an event in the selected calendar
- Modify an event in the selected calendar
- Delete an event from the selected calendar
- Search for a specific event in the selected calendar by ID
- Search for all events in a date range in the selected calendar
- Search for all events with matching text in the selected calendar
- Search for all events in a calendar
- Return event data from any search for storage or comparison in FMP
- Manage comparisons for events that have been modified at one or both ends since last synchronisation

Limitations: In its first release, the plug in does not support:
- Create, modify or delete calendars. You need to do this through Google's web interface
- Create recurring events. Events must be created individually.
- Reminders
- Attendees
- UTC time-zones. All events will be in the default time zone of the calendar
- Proxy servers
- There is no support for tasks, since Google do not currently publish any API for this.
