It started with a simple email from Dan Stein.  His main concern that there was no way for children and teenagers to meet at Devcon while the adults were busy attending meetings and sessions.  He asked, "Why not create a social forum for children of alike ages to find one another"?

We thought, what a great idea.  This would certainly be a great webinar, but why limit it to just children when we could of course create a nice simple place for the all community to meet and share.  So, earlier this month, we demonstrated a live webinar where we build FMGreet.

Over the past two weeks, a thousand people watched the webinar http://www.fmwebschool.com/webinars.php and they began emailing us questions and suggestions.  We suddenly realized that creating FMGreet for Devcon would be just the tip of the iceberg.  We could create a Social Networking website for the FileMaker community.

Most other sites focused on Developer Developer Developer - and we thought, lets focus on the FileMaker community as a whole. Not everything should focus on just the development of FileMaker, but the entire community.  Initially part of FMGreet will be centered around Devcon, but after Devcon more and more focus will be brought to the FileMaker community as a whole.

No one should be left out of the fun!  You've seen it, once Devcon starts, the email lists go dead, and people unable to attend Devcon are left asking "What's going on"?  This year FMWebschool will not have a physical booth.  For the last 5 years we have had a booth at Devcon.  This year our main focus will be creating a wealth of information for those attending and not attending Devcon.  We will actually be there just to enjoy socializing with the FileMaker community.
